Running notes on my Avanti KISS 29er Singlespeed
I bought this bike on a whim under the premise it would be a good training bike (not that I am specifically training for anything), anyways after a number or rides and nearly as many mods this bike has really gotten into me, it is my favourite by a long way.
List of updates in roughly chronological order.
- Optioned up wider riser bars from the shop
- Replaced BB5 brakes (yeah right) with second hand Avid Juicy 5s
- Swapped out heavy (but plush) seat & post with i-beam combo from prophet
- I wanted to try out 180mm cranks so swapped out the originals with an old (over 10 years) set of XT beauties complete with original (also over 10 year old) inboard BB. The BB still spins better than a brand new set of XT outboards…
The only chainring I could find at short notice for the XT (5 bolt 94 PCD) was a 32T (down from 33), this along with the extra 5mm crank length means a bit of test & tuning with the gearing needed.
Of note, the EBB does not have enough range of adjustment to run a 32T front 20T rear … odd - Carbon forks - see this post
- Carbon bars - part of the roholff auction I won was a set of carbon epx bars in the old skool skinny size. Not only were these nice & light they helped dampen out trail vibes just like the fork .. a great upgrade.
